Dialogue of culture vs non- dialogue of cultures in Woke World: Case of foreign language teaching

As the subject of the research the article discusses the dynamics of the axiosphere of methodology of teaching foreign languages to Russian students. The aim of the paper is rethinking of the phenomenon of culture and the change of its status in the structure of linguodidactic conceptology. The authors applying different methods (literature analysis, comparative, and content study), show external and internal factors that lead to change in scientific dominants due to the shifts of educational paradigms. The study demonstrated how these changes are formalized in the linguistic educational context using the example of the key concept dialogue of cultures . As a result, this approach reveals modern trends of non-dialogue of cultures in the process of intercultural communication. The achieved results are important for transformation of language education because of the latest geopolitical context.
CLIL FOR ENGINEERING EDUCATION: APPROACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER MINDSET

The presentation deals with the specific requirements for a foreign language teacher as an active subject of CLIL in the context of engineering education. The parameters of teacher's activity are considered, the special integrative nature of his professional competence is described. The term «foreign language teacher mindset» is one of such characteristics of the contemporary teacher as perfectionism, attitudes of achievement, self-development, self-actualisation, self-determination, and al. The author offers a «portrait» of the CLIL teacher, proves the necessity to transform the personal and activity substructures of the teacher for orientation of his ability to ensure the integration of subject («engineering») and foreign language education. The author pays special attention to the peculiarities of the methodological mindset of a foreign language teacher through describing of the mentality characteristics. The predominantly conservative (rigid) systemic-structural (linguistic) approach to foreign language education by teachers, insufficient understanding of the integrative links between teaching subject and linguistic content is stated. The author proclaims the need to rearrange the methodological mindset by means of transforming the teacher's vision of polyparadigmality of modern linguodidactics, dialectical and integrative nature of changes at the level of language teaching according to CLIL technology. The author includes the development of foreign language teacher mindset in the context of lifelong learning paradigm. The author proposes innovative strategies for the formation and development of the methodological mindset of a foreign language teacher in the context of the use of CLIL technology, gives recommendations for the application of these strategies for language teaching.

В настоящее время перед современной лингводидактикой стоит множество вызовов, на которые она должна быть в состоянии ответить. Лингво-дидактика как наука находится в прямой зависимости от господствующей научной антропоцентрической парадигмы, которая задает новые направления для исследований, нацеленные на обеспечение личностного развития обучающегося под воздействием факторов полиподходности и междисциплинарности как основных векторов языкового образования. Приводятся толкование и интерпретация понятия «синергия подходов» в сфере лингводидактики, примеры успешного «слияния», синтеза подходов к обучению иностранным языкам. Рассматриваются методологические основания, согласно которым проводится анализ перспективности исследования полиподходности и междисциплинарности в разрезе современного развития науки об обучении языку и культуре: информационная парадигма, синергетический, интегративный и коэволюционный подходы. На примере векторов «коммуникативность+» и «культуросообразность+» произведен разбор исследовательских кейсов, демонстрирующих направления интеграции подходов в современной лингводидактике.
Individual Styles of Summary Writing: Approaches to Styles Description and Diagnostics

Abstract. The article represents the analysis of individual styles of summary writing with the aim to describe them, and verify the methods of their defining (diagnosis). The purpose of the paper is to determine the scientific status, and also to substantiate the pragmatic function of individual summary writing styles in order to improve the quality of students’ preparation for this type of written activity in the process of learning foreign languages. The main goal of the authors is to prove that the individual style of summary writing is conditioned by socio- cultural and personal factors that influence the ability to perceive and process the source text and generate a secondary text – a summary. Materials and methods. As a methodological basis, the authors rely on the learner- centered and intercultural approaches to teaching. The solution of research problems was ensured through the use of a set of interrelated methods: theoretical (analysis of literature, of available domestic and foreign experience), general scientific (classification, differentiation, comparison, generalization), as well as empirical (experimental work, content analysis of activity products – summaries, statistical data processing). The material for research is summaries which are regarded as products of written speech by Russian- speaking and English- speaking students of an economics university. Results. The research identifies and characterizes lingvocognitive styles of summary writing specific for English and Russian language speakers, that reflect nationally and personally conditioned approaches to analytical and synthetic processing of information. We prove experimentally and statistically reliably the fact that Russian- speaking students are characterized by differentiating, scanning style of summary writing, while English- speaking students – by integrating, fragmenting style of summary writing. The systematization of the results of the summaries’ content analysis has demonstrated the use by the learners of their personal experience for perception, processing of the source text and in the generation of the text of a summary. Conclusions. The obtained results help to optimize the process of preparing students for writing summaries in the conditions of intercultural communication, taking into account the individual style of summary writing.

An addressee factor, as a constituent characteristic of a scientific text, takes into account a specific recipient to implement high-quality scientific communication. The need to consider this factor is explained by the search for ways to popularize scientific knowledge dissemination by means of scientific publications. The author's understanding of the aggregate “portrait” of the reader – his/her social, intellectual, cultural, educational parameters – should be reflected in the content and structure of the scientific written product. The authors present the analysis of such key concepts as “scientific text”, “addressing of the text”, “addressee”, “sender”. The article defines the characteristics of an article as a product of scientific communication which reflects the specificity of the individual-personal perception of information by the sender. Here is an attempt to prove that the nature of scientific interaction is becoming more individualized and personalized. There is an urgent need to find means and methods of the sender identifying the potential requirements of the addressee of the scientific message.

We represent techniques and methods to make the text addressed in the structure of scientific discourse. The article shows how it is possible through addressing of the text to achieve scientific interaction - to cause the recipient to replicate – to realize a certain verbal, mental, emotional reaction.
The Profession of Teacher in Digital World

Mankind has faced new challenges related to the development of the Internet era, and the formation of a digital society, digital (global) consciousness, a new axiosphere associated with the development of all forms of digitalization and networking. Due to the expansion of the information space to a state of unlimited, weak or impossible assessment of its reliability, there are risks of manipulating consciousness through the “soft power” of politics, art, and education. Such risks can be mitigated by education, which, during the period of widespread digitalization, must find answers to new challenges related to the education of a person in a network society. The article deals with the preparation of a new generation of teachers with new “digital” abilities, ready to overcome the challenges of our time. The empirical study addresses the issue of the range of digital teacher professions needed for life and work in the emerging Industry 4.0. The authors formulate the conditions under which the teacher’s readiness to implement digital technologies in educational practice can be achieved.
The assessment of students' professional communicative competence: new challenges and possible solutions

At present, due to significant attention to communicative competencies of University graduates, the assessment of an adequate level of their foreign language proficiency becomes one of the priority tasks of University education. The classical forms of assessment activities are not able to satisfy the need to identify the degree of communicative competence development. The solution of the problem of optimization of forms and methods of assessment is being conducted today in different directions by Russian and foreign researchers of second language teaching methods. The article focuses on the conditions of carrying out of communicative competence assessment that ensure the improvement of the quality of the assessment at Universities. The authors propose some practical solutions for improvement of assessment procedures among University students.
Cases on Intercultural Communication: New Approach to Design

The subject of the article is problem situations of intercultural communication, which lie in the basis of Case-studies – specialized descriptions of real situations containing problems, which must be analyzed and solved. The authors study approaches to the design of Case-studies that are necessary for the preparation of university students for participation in intercultural communication. The novelty of these Cases is to provide information that helps to deeply analyze the reality of other cultures and, through it, to rethink the participant’s native picture of the world. Consequently, the aim of the article is to prove the role of the Case-study method in the development of intercultural communicative competence of students, which allows them to overcome the conflict of the dialogue of cultures. To achieve this goal, the following research methods were used: content analysis of verbal products of activity, questioning, survey, theoretical analysis and generalization of information received. As a result the article contains an example of a Case-study on intercultural communication issues, as well as the list of the most conflict-sensitive areas of intercultural interaction. The article may be of interest to specialists in the field of intercultural communication, Case-study designers, teachers of foreign languages, authors of textbooks on foreign languages.
