Transverse momentum dependent production cross sections of charged pions, kaons and protons produced in inclusive e+e- annihilation at s =10.58 GeV

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report measurements of the production cross sections of charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of fractional energy, the event-shape variable called thrust, and the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These measurements access the transverse momenta created in the fragmentation process, which are of critical importance to the understanding of any transverse-momentum-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. The low transverse-momentum part of the cross sections can be well described by Gaussians in transverse momentum as is generally assumed but the fractional-energy dependence is nontrivial and different hadron types have varying Gaussian widths. The width of these Gaussians decreases with thrust and shows an initially rising, then decreasing fractional-energy dependence. The widths for pions and kaons are comparable within uncertainties, while those for protons are significantly narrower. These single-hadron cross sections and Gaussian widths are obtained from a 558 fb-1 data sample collected at the (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. © 2019 authors. Evidence for the decay B0 →p p π0

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report a search for the charmless baryonic decay B0→ppπ0 with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb-1 containing (772±10)×106 BB pairs. The data were collected by the Belle experiment running on the (4S) resonance at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure a branching fraction B(B0→ppπ0)=(5.0±1.8±0.6)×10-7, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays B0→Δ+p and B0→Δ-p, and set an upper limit on the branching fraction, B(B0→Δ+p)+B(B0→Δ-p)

Observation of Ξ (1620)0 and Evidence for Ξ (1690)0 in Ξc+ → Ξ-π+π+ Decays

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report the first observation of the double strange baryon Ξ(1620)0 in its decay to Ξ-π+ via Ξc+→Ξ-π+π+ decays based on a 980 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The mass and width are measured to be 1610.4±6.0(stat)-4.2+6.1 (syst) MeV/c2 and 59.9±4.8(stat)-7.1+2.8(syst) MeV, respectively. We obtain 4.0σ evidence of the Ξ(1690)0 with the same data sample. These results shed light on the structure of hyperon resonances with strangeness S=-2. © 2019 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.

Measurements of isospin asymmetry and difference of direct CP asymmetries in inclusive B →xsγ decays

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report measurements of isospin asymmetry Δ0- and difference of direct CP asymmetries ΔACP between charged and neutral B→Xsγ decays. This analysis is based on the data sample containing 772×106BB̄ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. Using a sum-of-exclusive technique with invariant Xs mass up to 2.8 GeV/c2, we obtain Δ0-=[-0.48±1.49(stat)±0.97(syst)±1.15(f+-/f00)]% and ΔACP=[+3.69±2.65(stat)±0.76(syst)]%, where the last uncertainty for Δ0- is due to the uncertainty on the production ratio of B+B- to B0B̄0 in Ï (4S) decays. The measured value of Δ0- is consistent with zero, allowing us to constrain the resolved photon contribution in the B→Xsγ, and improve the branching fraction prediction. The result for ΔACP is consistent with the prediction of the SM. We also measure the direct CP asymmetries for charged and neutral B→Xsγ decays. All the measurements are the most precise to date. © 2019 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. Search for a Light CP -odd Higgs Boson and Low-Mass Dark Matter at the Belle Experiment

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report on the first Belle search for a light CP-odd Higgs boson, A0, that decays into low mass dark matter, χ, in final states with a single photon and missing energy. We search for events produced via the dipion transition (2S)→ (1S)π+π-, followed by the on-shell process (1S)→γA0 with A0→χχ, or by the off-shell process (1S)→γχχ. Utilizing a data sample of 157.3×106 (2S) decays, we find no evidence for a signal. We set limits on the branching fractions of such processes in the mass ranges MA0

Observation of Transverse Λ / Λ Hyperon Polarization in e+e- Annihilation at Belle

2019 · ARTICLE · en

We report the first observation of the spontaneous polarization of Λ and Λ hyperons transverse to the production plane in e+e- annihilation, which is attributed to the effect arising from a polarizing fragmentation function. For inclusive Λ/Λ production, we also report results with subtracted feed-down contributions from Σ0 and charm. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4 fb-1 collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the Λ/Λ hyperon. © 2019 authors.

First Evidence for cos2β>0 and Resolution of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Quark-Mixing Unitarity Triangle Ambiguity

2018 · ARTICLE · en

We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase 2β is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D(∗)h0 with D→KS0π+π- decays, where h0 {π0,η,ω} denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BABAR and Belle experiments collected at the (4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain (471±3)×106BB pairs recorded by the BABAR detector and (772±11)×106BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. The results of the measurement are sin2β=0.80±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst)±0.03(model) and cos2β=0.91±0.22(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.07(model). The result for the direct measurement of the angle β of the CKM Unitarity Triangle is β=[22.5±4.4(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.6(model)]°. The measurement assumes no direct CP violation in B0→D(∗)h0 decays. The quoted model uncertainties are due to the composition of the D0→KS0π+π- decay amplitude model, which is newly established by performing a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis using a high-statistics e+e-→cc data sample. CP violation is observed in B0→D(∗)h0 decays at the level of 5.1 standard deviations. The significance for cos2β>0 is 3.7 standard deviations. The trigonometric multifold solution π/2-β=(68.1±0.7)° is excluded at the level of 7.3 standard deviations. The measurement resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.

Observation of I (2S) →γηb (1S) Decay

2018 · ARTICLE · en

We report the observation of I(2S)→γηb(1S) decay based on an analysis of the inclusive photon spectrum of 24.7 fb-1 of e+e- collisions at the I(2S) center-of-mass energy collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure a branching fraction of B[I(2S)→γηb(1S)]=(6.1-0.7-0.6+0.6+0.9)×10-4 and derive an ηb(1S) mass of 9394.8-3.1-2.7+2.7+4.5 MeV/c2, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The significance of our measurement is greater than 7 standard deviations, constituting the first observation of this decay mode. © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.

Measurement of the decays Λc → Σππ at Belle

2018 · ARTICLE · en

We report measurements of the branching fractions of the decays Λc+→Σ+π-π+, Λc+→Σ0π+π0 and Λc+→Σ+π0π0 relative to the reference channel Λc+→pK-π+. The analysis is based on the full data sample collected at and near the (4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb-1. We measure B(Λc+→Σ+π-π+)/B(Λc+→pK-π+)=0.719±0.003±0.024, B(Λc+→Σ0π+π0)/B(Λc+→pK-π+)=0.575±0.005±0.036 and B(Λc+→Σ+π0π0)/B(Λc+→pK-π+)=0.247±0.006±0.019. The listed uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.

Search for the rare decay of B+ →+νγ with improved hadronic tagging

2018 · ARTICLE · en

We present the result of the search for the rare B meson decay of B+→+νγ with =e,μ. For the search the full data set recorded by the Belle experiment of 711 fb-1 integrated luminosity near the (4S) resonance is used. Signal candidates are reconstructed for photon energies Eγ larger than 1 GeV using a novel multivariate tagging algorithm. The novel algorithm fully reconstructs the second B meson produced in the collision using hadronic modes and was specifically trained to recognize the signal signature in combination with hadronic tag-side B meson decays. This approach greatly enhances the performance. Background processes that can mimic this signature, mainly charmless semileptonic decays and continuum processes, are suppressed using multivariate methods. The number of signal candidates is determined by analyzing the missing mass squared distribution as inferred from the signal side particles and the kinematic properties of the tag-side B meson. No significant excess over the background-only hypothesis is observed and upper limits on the partial branching fraction ΔB with Eγ>1 GeV individually for electron and muon final states as well as for the average branching fraction of both lepton final states are reported. We find a Bayesian upper limit of ΔB(B+→+νγ)0.24 GeV at 90% CL. © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.
