Burkhardt Quartic, Barth Sextic, and the Icosahedron

We study two rational Fano threefolds with an action of the icosahedral group 𝔄5. The first one is the famous Burkhardt quartic threefold, and the second one is the double cover of the projective space branched in the Barth sextic surface. We prove that both of them are 𝔄5-Fano varieties that are 𝔄5-birationally superrigid. This gives two new embeddings of the group 𝔄5 into the space Cremona group.
Which quartic double solids are rational?

We study the rationality problem for nodal quartic double solids. In particular, we prove that nodal quartic double solids with at most six singular points are irrational and nodal quartic double solids with at least eleven singular points are rational.

Nef partitions for codimension 2 weighted complete intersections

We prove that a smooth well-formed Fano weighted complete intersection of codimension 2 has a nef partition. We discuss applications of this fact to Mirror Symmetry. In particular we list all nef partitions for smooth well-formed Fano weighted complete intersections of dimensions 4 and 5 and present weak Landau–Ginzburg models for them.

Finite groups of bimeromorphic selfmaps of uniruled Kähler threefolds

Double Veronese cones with 28 nodes

We study nodal del Pezzo 3-folds of degree 1 (also known as double Veronese cones) with 28 singularities, which is the maximal possible number of singularities for such varieties. We show that they are in one-to-one correspondence with smooth plane quartics and use this correspondence to study their automorphism groups. As an application, we find all G-birationally rigid varieties of this kind, and construct an infinite number of non-conjugate embeddings of the group 𝔖_4 into the space Cremona group.
Bounded automorphism groups of compact complex surfaces

We classify compact complex surfaces whose groups of bimeromorphic selfmaps have bounded finite subgroups. We also prove that the stabilizer of a point in the automorphism group of a compact complex surface of zero Kodaira dimension, as well as the stabilizer of a point in the automorphism group of an arbitrary compact Kaehler manifold of non-negative Kodaira dimension, always has bounded finite subgroups.
