Measurement of the CKM angle γ in B± → DK*(892)± decays

Measurements of CP observables and the CKM angle γ are performed in B± → DK*(892)± decays, where D represents a superposition of D0 and states, using the LHCb dataset collected during Run 1 (2011–2012) and Run 2 (2015–2018). A study of this channel is presented with the D meson reconstructed in two-body final states K±π∓, K+K− and π+π−; four-body final states K±π∓π±π∓ and π+π−π+π−; and three-body final states and . This analysis includes the first observation of the suppressed B± → [π±K∓]DK*± and B± → [π±K∓π±π∓]DK*± decays. The combined result gives γ = (63 ± 13)°

Measurements of ψ(2S) and χc1(3872) production within fully reconstructed jets

This paper presents the first measurement of ψ(2S) and χc1(3872) meson production within fully reconstructed jets. Each quarkonium state (tag) is reconstructed via its decay to the J/ψ(→μ+μ−)π+π− final state in the forward region using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at the center-of-mass-energy of 13TeV in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64fb−1. The fragmentation function, presented as the ratio of the quarkonium-tag transverse momentum to the full jet transverse momentum (pT(tag)/pT(jet)), is measured differentially in pT(jet) and pT(tag) bins. The distributions are separated into promptly produced quarkonia from proton-proton collisions and quarkonia produced from displaced b-hadron decays. While the displaced quarkonia fragmentation functions are in general well described by parton-shower predictions, the prompt quarkonium distributions differ significantly from fixed-order non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) predictions followed by a QCD parton shower.

Test of Lepton Flavor Universality with 𝐵0𝑠 →𝜙ℓ+ℓ− Decays

Lepton flavor universality in rare 𝑏 →𝑠 transitions is tested for the first time using 𝐵0𝑠 meson decays. The measurements are performed using 𝑝⁢𝑝 collision data collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. Branching fraction ratios between the 𝐵0𝑠→𝜙⁢𝑒+⁢𝑒− and 𝐵0𝑠 →𝜙⁢𝜇+⁢𝜇− decays are measured in three regions of dilepton mass squared, 𝑞2, with 0.1

Search for B∗0(s)→μ+μ− in B+c→π+μ+μ− decays

A search for the very rare B∗0→μ+μ− and B∗0s→μ+μ− decays is conducted by analysing the B+c→π+μ+μ− process. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9\,fb−1. The signal signatures correspond to simultaneous peaks in the μ+μ− and π+μ+μ− invariant masses. No evidence for an excess of events over background is observed for either signal decay mode. Upper limits at the 90% confidence level are set on the branching fractions relative to that for B+c→J/ψπ+ decays, B∗0(μ+μ−)π+/J/ψπ+

First Determination of the Spin-Parity of Ξ𝑐(3055)+,0 Baryons

The Ξ0⁢(−)𝑏→Ξ𝑐⁢(3055)+(0)⁢(→𝐷+(0)⁢Λ)⁢𝜋− decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξ𝑐⁢(3055)+(0) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of √𝑠 =13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1, recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξ𝑐⁢(3055)+(0) baryons is determined to be 3/2+ with a significance of more than 6.5⁢𝜎 (3.5⁢𝜎) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξ0⁢(−)𝑏→Ξ𝑐⁢(3055)+(0)⁢𝜋− transitions are measured to be −0.92±0.10±0.05 (−0.92±0.16±0.22), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξ𝑐⁢(3055)+(0) baryons correspond to the first 𝐷-wave 𝜆-mode excitation of the Ξ𝑐 flavor triplet.

Measurement of exclusive J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) production at √ s = 13 TeV

Measurement of CP violation in B0→D+D− and B0s→D+sD−s decays

A time-dependent, flavour-tagged measurement of CP violation is performed with B0→D+D− and B0s→D+sD−s decays, using data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb−1. In B0→D+D− decays the CP-violation parameters are measured to be SD+D−CD+D−=−0.552±0.100(stat)±0.010(syst),=0.128±0.103(stat)±0.010(syst). In B0s→D+sD−s decays the CP-violating parameter formulation in terms of ϕs and |λ| results in ϕs|λD+sD−s|=−0.086±0.106(stat)±0.028(syst)rad,=1.145±0.126(stat)±0.031(syst). These results represent the most precise single measurement of the CP-violation parameters in their respective channels. For the first time in a single measurement, CP symmetry is observed to be violated in B0→D+D− decays with a significance exceeding six standard deviations.

Measurement of 𝐷0−¯𝐷0 mixing and search for 𝐶𝑃 violation with 𝐷0→𝐾+𝜋− decays

A measurement of the time-dependent ratio of the 𝐷0 →𝐾+⁢𝜋− to ¯𝐷0→𝐾+⁢𝜋− decay rates is reported. The analysis uses a sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb−1 recorded by the LHCb experiment from 2015 through 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The 𝐷0 meson is required to originate from a 𝐷*⁢(2010)+→𝐷0⁢𝜋+ decay, such that its flavor at production is inferred from the charge of the accompanying pion. The measurement is performed simultaneously for the 𝐾+ 𝜋− and 𝐾− 𝜋+ final states, allowing both mixing and 𝐶⁢𝑃-violation parameters to be determined. The value of the ratio of the decay rates at production is determined to be 𝑅𝐾⁢𝜋=(343.1±2.0)×10−5. The mixing parameters are measured to be 𝑐𝐾⁢𝜋 =(51.4 ±3.5) ×10−4 and 𝑐′𝐾⁢𝜋=(13±4)×10−6, where √𝑅𝐾⁢𝜋⁢𝑐𝐾⁢𝜋 is the linear coefficient of the expansion of the ratio as a function of decay time in units of the 𝐷0 lifetime, and 𝑐′𝐾⁢𝜋 is the quadratic coefficient, both averaged between the 𝐾+ 𝜋− and 𝐾− 𝜋+ final states. The precision is improved relative to the previous best measurement by approximately 60%. No evidence for 𝐶⁢𝑃 violation is found.

Observation of Exotic 𝐽/𝜓𝜙 Resonant Structure in Diffractive Processes in Proton-Proton Collisions

The first study of 𝐽/𝜓⁢𝜙 production in diffractive processes in proton-proton collisions is presented. The study is based on an LHCb dataset recorded at center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1. The data disfavor a nonresonant 𝐽/𝜓⁢𝜙 production but are consistent with a resonant model including several resonant states observed previously only in 𝐵+→𝐽/𝜓⁢𝜙⁢𝐾+ decays. The 𝜒𝑐⁢0⁡(4500) state is observed with a significance over 6⁢𝜎 and the 𝜒𝑐⁢1⁡(4274) is confirmed with a significance of more than 4⁢𝜎.

Amplitude analysis of B+ → ψ(2S)K+π+π− decays

The first full amplitude analysis of B+ → ψ(2S)K+π+π− decays is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1 recorded with the LHCb detector. The rich K+π+π− spectrum is studied and the branching fractions of the resonant substructure associated with the prominent K1(1270)+ contribution are measured. The data cannot be described by conventional strange and charmonium resonances only. An amplitude model with 53 components is developed comprising 11 hidden-charm exotic hadrons. New production mechanisms for charged charmonium-like states are observed. Significant resonant activity with spin-parity JP = 1+ in the ψ(2S)π+ system is confirmed and a multi-pole structure is demonstrated. The spectral decomposition of the ψ(2S)π+π− invariant-mass structure, dominated by X0 → ψ(2S)ρ(770)0 decays, broadly resembles the J/ψϕ spectrum observed in B+ → J/ψϕK+ decays. Exotic ψ(2S)K+π− resonances are observed for the first time.
