Three-Parameter Kinetics of Self-organized Criticality on Twitter

2020 · CHAPTER · en

A kinetic model is proposed to describe the self-organized criticality on Twitter. The model is based on a fractional three-parameter self-organization scheme with stochastic sources. It is shown that the adiabatic regime of self- organization to the critical state is determined by the coordinated action of a relatively small number of network users. The model is described the subcritical, self-organized critical and supercritical state of Twitter.

Data-Driven Approach To Patient Flow Management And Resource Utilization In Urban Medical Facilities

2020 · CHAPTER · en

Healthcare services are tightly connected with complex data analysis techniques to enable optimal resource allocation in medical institutions. This paper proposes a detailed analysis of incoming patient flow to local polyclinic by integrating clustering techniques, process mining and a concept of self-organizing systems. The study takes into account concepts based on models of managing social networks, the participants of which today can be both people and intelligent software. How could patient flow model be developed using a clinical pathways approach that combines clinical pathways tool, social media analysis, hierarchical agglomerative clustering method and probabilistic topic modeling to investigate the optimal resource utilization of medical facility? The methodology to answer this research question was demonstrated using a time- series clustering (kmedoids, Ward's method, Latent Dirichlet Allocation, Additive Regularization of Topic Models), Naive Bayes classifier based on public real data of 64668 depersonalized patient- doctor of 32 specialties conversions. In this paper, a modeling methodology for heterogeneous patient flow segmentation is proposed. The presented approaches serve as the foundation for the further development of a queuing system model of a medical institution. In addition, the shared economy principles are applied by the development of such service that would reduce the workload of appointments to therapists by matching patients to needed doctors.

Theoretical Study of Self-organized Phase Transitions in Microblogging Social Networks

2019 · CHAPTER · en

A simple sociophysical model is proposed to describe the transition between a chaotic and a coherent state of a microblogging social network. The model is based on the equations of evolution of the order parameter, the conjugated field, and the control parameter. The self-consistent evolution of the networks is presented by equations in which the correlation function between the incoming information and the subsequent change of the number of microposts plays the role of the order parameter; the conjugate field is equal to the existing information; and the control parameter is given by the number of strategically oriented users. Analysis of the adiabatic approximation shows that the second-order phase transition, which means following a definite strategy by the network users, occurs when their initial number exceeds a critical value equal to the geometric mean of the total and critical number of users.

Application of Modern Data Analysis Methods to Cluster the Clinical Pathways in Urban Medical Facilities

2019 · CHAPTER · en

Patient flow modeling in healthcare plays a large role in understanding the operation of the system and its characteristics. Besides, modeling techniques can significantly improve the effectiveness of the medical facilities. The existing level of automation in these facilities enables the accumulation of large amounts of various data. Therefore, the collected data might be considered as the resource of new valuable knowledge. A novel approach to automatically identify the groups of similar clinical pathways based on event hospital data is presented in the paper. More specifically, the approach summarizes the most frequent pathways by implementing hard and soft clustering algorithms in order to describe the behavior patterns. The obtained clusters of clinical pathways serve as a starting point for the development of a personalized approach in modelling the heterogeneous patient flow in urban medical facilities. The results indicate the suitability of multidimensional time series clustering and Additive Regularization of Topic Models (ARTM) for the clinical event data.

Complexity of a microblogging social network in the framework of modern nonlinear science

2018 · ARTICLE · en

Recent developments in nonlinear science have caused the formation of a new paradigm called the paradigm of complexity. The self-organized criticality theory constitutes the foundation of this paradigm. To estimate the complexity of a microblogging social network, we used one of the conceptual schemes of the paradigm, namely, the system of key signs of complexity of the external manifestations of the system irrespective of its internal structure. Our research revealed all the key signs of complexity of the time series of a number of microposts. We offer a new model of a microblogging social network as a nonlinear random dynamical system with additive noise in three-dimensional phase space. Implementations of this model in the adiabatic approximation possess all the key signs of complexity, making the model a reasonable evolutionary model for a microblogging social network. The use of adiabatic approximation allows us to model a microblogging social network as a nonlinear random dynamical system with multiplicative noise with the power-law in one-dimensional phase space.

Modeling and Analysis of Social Network Dynamics on the Macro-level in View of the Customer-centric Concept

2018 · CHAPTER · en

The present paper considers the questions of modeling and analysis of dynamical features of social networks taking into account evolutionary changes. A two level approach to monitoring of social network dynamics and evolution is described, including the functionality of both levels. Possible practical interpretations and correlations with the customer-centric concept are mentioned.

Leveraging heterogeneous device connectivity in a converged 5G-IoT ecosystem

2017 · ARTICLE · en

As mobile communications technology is completing its fifth-generation (5G) cycle, it becomes increasingly capable of supporting novel usage scenarios with stringent performance requirements. Beyond seamless broadband connectivity for humans, 5G systems are preparing to enable a wide range of machine-type applications, thus advancing the vision of the Internet of Things (IoT). Facilitated by the rapidly converging 5G-IoT ecosystem, next-generation industrial IoT services, however, pose unprecedented research problems, primarily along the lines of providing wireless connectivity with ubiquitous availability, extreme reliability, and ultra-low latency. To this end, the first part of this paper presents a concise update on the novel requirements and challenges in the context of the emerging Industrial Internet infrastructure. In the second part, we introduce and solve a new optimization problem formulation aimed at improving performance reliability for advanced IoT devices equipped with several radio access technologies. We argue that by intelligently leveraging such heterogeneous multi-connectivity, future 5Ggrade IoT applications will be able to improve their levels of operational reliability. Our conclusions are corroborated by rigorous mathematical derivations as well as several realistic numerical examples.
