Measurement of forward charged hadron flow harmonics in peripheral PbPb collisions at √𝑠𝑁𝑁=5.02TeV with the LHCb detector
2024 · ARTICLE · en
Flow harmonic coefficients, 𝑣𝑛, which are the key to studying the hydrodynamics of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in heavy-ion collisions, have been measured in various collision systems and kinematic regions and using various particle species. The study of flow harmonics in a wide pseudorapidity range is particularly valuable to understand the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of the QGP. This paper presents the first LHCb results of the second- and the third-order flow harmonic coefficients of charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum in the forward region, corresponding to pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.9, using the data collected from PbPb collisions in 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The coefficients measured using the two-particle angular correlation analysis method are smaller than the central-pseudorapidity measurements at ALICE and ATLAS from the same collision system but share similar features.

Curvature-bias corrections using a pseudomass method
2024 · ARTICLE · en
Momentum measurements for very high momentum charged particles, such as muons from electroweak vector boson decays, are particularly susceptible to charge-dependent curvature biases that arise from misalignments of tracking detectors. Low momentum charged particles used in alignment procedures have limited sensitivity to coherent displacements of such detectors, and therefore are unable to fully constrain these misalignments to the precision necessary for studies of electroweak physics. Additional approaches are therefore required to understand and correct for these effects. In this paper the curvature biases present at the LHCb detector are studied using the pseudomass method in proton-proton collision data recorded at centre of mass energy √(s)=13 TeV during 2016, 2017 and 2018. The biases are determined using Z→μ+μ-decays in intervals defined by the data-taking period, magnet polarity and muon direction. Correcting for these biases, which are typically at the 10-4 GeV-1 level, improves the Z→μ+μ- mass resolution by roughly 18% and eliminates several pathological trends in the kinematic-dependence of the mean dimuon invariant mass.

Search for CP violation in the phase space of $D^0 \to K_S^0 K^\pm \pi^\mp$ decays with the energy test
2024 · ARTICLE · en
A search for CP violation in D0→KS0K+π− and D0→KS0K−π+ decays is reported. The search is performed using an unbinned model-independent method known as the energy test that probes local CP violation in the phase space of the decays. The data analysed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1 collected in proton-proton collisions by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV, amounting to approximately 950 thousand and 620 thousand signal candidates for the D0→KS0K−π+ and D0→KS0K+π− modes, respectively. The method is validated using D0 → K−π+π−π+ and D0→KS0π+π− decays, where CP-violating effects are expected to be negligible, and using background-enhanced regions of the signal decays. The results are consistent with CP symmetry in both the D0→KS0K−π+ and the D0→KS0K+π− decays, with p-values for the hypothesis of no CP violation of 70% and 66%, respectively.

The Ξb0→Ξc+Ds− and Ξb−→Ξc0Ds− decays are observed for the first time using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1fb−1. The branching fractions times the production cross-sections of Ξb baryons relative to that of Λb0 baryon are measured to be R(Ξb0Λb0)≡σ(Ξb0)σ(Λb0)×B(Ξb0→Ξc+Ds−)B(Λb0→Λc0Ds−)=(15.8±1.1±0.6±7.7)%,R(Ξb−Λb0)≡σ(Ξb−)σ(Λb0)×B(Ξb−→Ξc0Ds−)B(Λb0→Λc0Ds−)=(16.9±1.3±0.9±4.3)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainties on the decay branching fractions of relevant charmed baryons. The masses of Ξb0 and Ξb− baryons are measured to be mΞb0=5791.12±0.60±0.45±0.24MeV/c2 and mΞb−=5797.02±0.63±0.49±0.29MeV/c2, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and those due to charmed-hadron masses, respectively.
A measurement of ∆Γs

Using a dataset corresponding to 9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018 in proton-proton collisions, the decay-time distributions of the decay modes Bs0→J/ψη′ and Bs0→J/ψπ+π− are studied. The decay-width difference between the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the Bs0 meson is measured to be ∆Γs = 0.087 ± 0.012 ± 0.009 ps−1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
Enhanced production of $\Lambda_b^0$ baryons in high-multiplicity $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13TeV

The production rate of Λ0𝑏 baryons relative to 𝐵0 mesons in 𝑝𝑝 collisions at a center-of-mass energy √𝑠=13 TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of Λ0𝑏 to 𝐵0 production cross sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in 𝑒+𝑒− collisions, and increases by a factor of ∼2 with increasing multiplicity. At relatively low transverse momentum, the ratio of Λ0𝑏 to 𝐵0 cross sections is higher than what is measured in 𝑒+𝑒− collisions, but converges with the 𝑒+𝑒− ratio as the momentum increases. These results imply that the evolution of heavy 𝑏 quarks into final-state hadrons is influenced by the density of the hadronic environment produced in the collision. Comparisons with several models and implications for the mechanisms enforcing quark confinement are discussed.
Helium identification with LHCb
2024 · ARTICLE · en
The identification of helium nuclei at LHCb is achieved using a method based on measurements of ionisation losses in the silicon sensors and timing measurements in the Outer Tracker drift tubes. The background from photon conversions is reduced using the RICH detectors and an isolation requirement. The method is developed using pp collision data at √(s) = 13 TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment in the years 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb-1. A total of around 105 helium and antihelium candidates are identified with negligible background contamination. The helium identification efficiency is estimated to be approximately 50% with a corresponding background rejection rate of up to (1012). These results demonstrate the feasibility of a rich programme of measurements of QCD and astrophysics interest involving light nuclei.
