Search for the lepton flavour violating decay B+→K+μ−τ+ using B∗0s2 decays

2020 · ARTICLE · en

A search is presented for the lepton flavour violating decay B+→K+μ−τ+using a sample of proton--proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The τ leptons are selected inclusively, primarily via decays with a single charged particle. The four-momentum of the τ lepton is determined by using B+ mesons from B∗0s2→B+K− decays. No significant excess is observed, and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction B(B+→K+μ−τ+)

Search for CP violation and observation of P violation in Λ0b→pπ−π+π− decays

2020 · ARTICLE · en

A search for CP violation in the Λ0b→pπ−π+π− decay is performed using LHCb data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.6 fb−1 collected in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The analysis uses both triple product asymmetries and the unbinned energy test method. The highest significances of CP asymmetry are 2.9 standard deviations from triple product asymmetries and 3.0 standard deviations for the energy test method. Once the global p-value is considered, all results are consistent with no CP violation. Parity violation is observed at a significance of 5.5 standard deviations for the triple product asymmetry method and 5.3 standard deviations for the energy test method. The reported deviations are given in regions of phase space.

Measurement of |Vcb| with B0s→Ds(∗)μ+νμ decays

2020 · ARTICLE · en

The element |Vcb| of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is measured using semileptonic B0s decays produced in proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. Rates of B0s→D−sμ+νμ and B0s→D∗−sμ+νμ decays are analyzed using hadronic form-factor parametrizations derived either by Caprini, Lellouch and Neubert (CLN) or by Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL). The measured values of |Vcb| are (41.4±0.6±0.9±1.2)×10−3 and (42.3±0.8±0.9±1.2)×10−3 in the CLN and BGL parametrization, respectively. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the external inputs used in the measurement. These results are in agreement with those obtained from decays of B+ and B0 mesons. They are the first determinations of |Vcb| at a hadron-collider experiment and the first using B0s meson decays.

Observation of the semileptonic decay B+→pp¯μ+νμ

2020 · ARTICLE · en

The Cabibbo-suppressed semileptonic decay B+→pp⎯⎯⎯μ+νμ is observed for the first time using a sample of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0, 2.0 and 1.7fb−1 at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13TeV, respectively. The differential branching fraction is measured as a function of the pp⎯⎯⎯ invariant mass using the decay mode B+→J/ψK+ for normalisation. The total branching fraction is measured to be (B+→pp⎯⎯⎯μ+νμ)=(5.27+0.23−0.24±0.21±0.15)×10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is from the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalisation channel.

Measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0s→K0SK0S

2020 · ARTICLE · en

A measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0s→K0SK0S is performed using proton–proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2016. The branching fraction is determined to be B(B0s→K0SK0S)=[8.3±1.6(stat)±0.9(syst)±0.8(norm)±0.3(fs/fd)]×10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third and fourth are due to uncertainties on the branching fraction of the normalization mode B0→ϕK0S and the ratio of hadronization fractions fs/fd. This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date. Furthermore, a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0→K0SK0S is performed relative to that of the B0s→K0SK0S channel, and is found to be B(B0→K0SK0S)B(B0s→K0SK0S)=[7.5±3.1(stat)±0.5(syst)±0.3(fs/fd)]×10−2.

Updated measurement of decay-time-dependent CP asymmetries in D0→K+K− and D0→π+π− decays

2020 · ARTICLE · en

A search for decay-time-dependent charge-parity (CP) asymmetry in D0→K+K− and D0→π+π− decays is performed at the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb−1. The D0 mesons are required to originate from semileptonic decays of b hadrons, such that the charge of the muon identifies the flavor of the neutral D meson at production. The asymmetries in the effective decay widths of D0 and D¯¯¯¯0 mesons are determined to be AΓ(K+K−)=(−4.3±3.6±0.5)×10−4 and AΓ(π+π−)=(2.2±7.0±0.8)×10−4, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The results are consistent with CP symmetry and, when combined with previous LHCb results, yield AΓ(K+K−)=(−4.4±2.3±0.6)×10−4 and AΓ(π+π−)=(2.5±4.3±0.7)×10−4.

Isospin amplitudes in Λ0b→J/ψΛ(Σ0) and Ξ0b→J/ψΞ0(Λ) decays

2020 · ARTICLE · en

Ratios of isospin amplitudes in hadron decays are a useful probe of the interplay between weak and strong interactions and allow searches for physics beyond the standard model. We present the first results on isospin amplitudes in b-baryon decays, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb-1, collected with the LHCb detector in pp collisions at center of mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The isospin amplitude ratio |A1(Λb0→J/ψΣ0)/A0(Λb0→J/ψΛ)|, where the subscript on A indicates the final-state isospin, is measured to be less than 1/21.8 at 95% confidence level. The Cabibbo suppressed Ξb0→J/ψΛ decay is observed for the first time, allowing for the measurement |A0(Ξb0→J/ψΛ)/A1/2(Ξb0→J/ψΞ0)|=0.37±0.06±0.02, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Measurement of the Λ0b→J/ψΛ angular distribution and the Λ0b polarisation in pp collisions

2020 · ARTICLE · en

This paper presents an analysis of the Λ0𝑏Λb0→ J/ψΛ angular distribution and the transverse production polarisation of Λ0𝑏Λb0 baryons in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The measurements are performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb−1, collected with the LHCb experiment. The polarisation is determined in a fiducial region of Λ0𝑏Λb0 transverse momentum and pseudorapidity of 1 T 20 GeV/c and 2 5, respectively. The data are consistent with Λ0𝑏Λb0 baryons being produced unpolarised in this region. The parity-violating asymmetry parameter of the Λ → pπ− decay is also determined from the data and its value is found to be consistent with a recent measurement by the BES III collaboration.
